Organizations
The Easton United Methodist Women held their monthly meeting at the home of Freda and Rollie Dionne on Dec. 20 with nine members present. The meeting started at 10 a.m. with a sack lunch and fancy desserts made by the hostess. Marie Hewitt opened the meeting with devotions, the word for the day was ‘Hope.’ A list of people who were in need of prayer was lifted up by President Eldora Carter. The treasurer, Marie, reported that the Christmas sale had taken in $1,063.85. It was voted to give 10 percent of that to the Homeless Shelter in Presque Isle. It was also voted to purchase a gift card at Mike’s Family Market for a family in Easton for Christmas. There was a discussion on just what the group would do in memory of a former member Helen Todd. It was decided that the president, with other help, would select a tree or bush to be planted at the church in her memory in the spring. Two trees had been planted last spring in memory of Wilda Wathen and Margaret Wolverton but one was destroyed and the other vandalized by someone this fall. These will be replaced, hopefully, this spring also. After the meeting the group wrapped cookie plates for 16 Easton citizens who are shut in or alone this holiday season. Those in attendance were, Eldora Carter, Marie Hewitt, Marjorie Corey, Carol Higley, Avis Humes, Glenice Craig, Lindy Fowler, Dottie Beaton and the hostess, Freda Dionne.
Remember that on Dec. 29 there will be a Snow Fun Day at the Odd Fellows Hall. You will be enjoying a time outside in the snow (if there is any snow) and inside enjoying some games and crafts together. The time will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Dress warmly for fun this winter season. Also on Friday, Dec. 29, there will be a New Year’s Eve Party at the Hall. There will be fun crafts, singing karaoke, eating snacks and much more. This party will go on from 6 to 8 p.m. and all school-aged kids are welcome. If parents wish to help out or some of the high school students who need Bears Hours, they are more than welcome to join the group.
On Saturday, Dec. 30, all Little Bears will have a basketball practice at the Easton Elementary School gym. This includes Kindergarten through second grade and will begin at 9 a.m. until 10 a.m., then the third through fifth grades will practice from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
Visits
Cheryl and Scott Koenke, of Greenborough, South Carolina, are home spending the Christmas holidays with her parents, Jeannie and Richard Kneeland and the family. Jeannie’s sister, Carol Ann Kierstead, also flew in on Dec. 21 to spend a few days over the holidays. They all were anxious to visit with their 104-year-old grandmother and mother, Lillian Kierstead, at the Presque Isle Health Care Facility.
Hospitalized
Winston ‘Satch’ Howlett recently returned home after spending three days in The Aroostook Medical Center, after he was troubled with dizziness.
Roger Wilcox was taken suddenly and unexpectedly last week, to the Caribou hospital by ambulance, from his doctor’s office, after experiencing a sudden high spike in his sugar count. He was put into the Intensive Care Unit for a few days to get everything stabilized. As of this report, on Dec. 21 he was expected to get home in time for Christmas.
