Wildcat swimmers split at home

    PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The Presque Isle varsity swim teams split a meet featuring Orono and Washington Academy on Thursday. The boys’ and girls’ teams both picked up wins against Washington Academy while losing to Orono.

    The girls’ posted a 40-21 win over the Raiders while taking a 127-24 loss to the Red Riots. Individually Karrie Brown took a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of two minutes and 55.25 seconds and a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:37.13; Emilee Currie finished second in the 220-yard individual medley at 3:24.16 and third in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:17.87; Paige McEachern finished second in the 50-yard freestyle at 35.73 and third in the 100-yard breaststroke; and Allison Young finished second in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:11.03 and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:28.61.

    In relay competition the team of Young, Desiree Higgins, Currie and Brawn finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

    On the boys’ side Presque Isle earned a 40-21 win over the Raiders while taking a 54-36 loss to the Red Riots.

    Individually, Joey Johnson placed third in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:49.73 and second in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:27.01; Mike Yu place third in the 50-yard freestyle at 30.49 and first in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:07.57; Cameron Winter placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle at 34.63 and first in the 500-yard freestyle at 8:54; and Jacob Brawn placed seventh in the 50-yard freestyle at 41.57.

    In relay competition the team of Yu, Winter, Brawn and Johnson placed second in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:29.35.

    Just before Christmas both teams lost to John Bapst 144-12 on the girls’ side and 95-17 on the boys’.

    Presque Isle takes a break until Jan. 11 when they host Hampden and Caribou beginning at 5:30 p.m.
