PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Officials with the Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce have announced the winner of its first-ever Crown of Maine Balloon Festival Photo Contest, Youth Division.

“We had six entries this year. Upon reviewing the pictures received, Chelsea Simonds, of Presque Isle, was selected the winner in the Youth Division,” said Allen Deeves, executive director of the PIACC.
Simonds, the daughter of Marcia and Matt Simonds, said she enjoys taking pictures. She received a $50 prize for her effort.
“I’ve been taking them for a while,” said Simonds. “I enjoyed the festival. It kept me and my family busy chasing the balloons.”
Simonds used a Samsung digital camera to capture her winning entry. The picture clearly shows the majority of balloons involved in this year’s festival.
Plans are already in the works to hold the photo contest again later this year, when the balloons return to the city, said Deeves. For those who are interested in photography, Deeves said a local businesswoman is working on starting a photography club.
“Billie Brodsky, of The Silver Basket on Main Street, would like to start a photography club. Anyone interested in joining can contact her at 764-0086,” said Deeves.
