Cheering competition
The 15th annual Aroostook League Cheering competition is slated for this Friday at the Caribou High School gymnasium beginning at 7 p.m.
     Cost for admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Seven schools are slated for competition including Caribou, Central Aroostook, Presque Isle, Van Buren, Houlton, Easton and Fort Fairfield. In addition the Aroostook League Middle School Champions will perform at intermission.

PIHS athlete of the week
The Varsity Club and Big Cheese Pizza are pleased to congratulate varsity cheerleaders Autumn Whittaker and Amanda Lynds for being selected as co-female athletes of the week for the week of Jan. 1-6.
Both are credited by coach Mandy Putnam as working extremely hard everyday and exhibiting strong leadership skills. Whittaker and Lynds are great role models for their teammates and exemplify what cheerleaders should be, according to Putnam.
There were no nominations for male athlete of the week.
Student athletes chosen as athletes of the week receive a one-item, large pizza courtesy of Big Cheese Pizza.

MWSC upcoming events
As the winter season approaches the clubs of the Maine Winter Sports Center are becoming more and more active. The following is a list of events scheduled for the coming months.
Jan. 19: Nordic Heritage Full Moon Citizen Biathlon and Potluck supper beginning at 6 p.m.
Jan. 21: 8K classical New Sweden Ski Dag
Jan. 28: 20 and 40K freestyle marathon at the 10th Mountain Center in Fort Kent.
Feb. 4: 5K freestyle Big Rock Downhill Dash at Big Rock Ski Area in Mars Hill.
Feb. 10: Sam Ouellette Ski Marathon featuring an 8K junior race and 40K and 80K adult races.
Feb. 11: Karen Sprague Memorial ace featuring classical spring relays and a skiathlon.
Feb. 18: Henry Anderson Ski Dag in Caribou featuring an 8K classical race.

Snowmobile ride with Andy Santerre
The third annual snowmobile ride featuring 2002-2005 Busch North Series Champion Andy Santerre is slated for Saturday, Feb. 10 starting at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center.
This year’s charity ride, dinner and auction benefit the AMHC Sexual Assault Services program and is sponsored by AMHC, Clukey’s Auto, Value Parts Stores and County Sports Polaris. The day-long activity schedule begins at 8:30 a.m. with registration and sign-in at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center poolside. The ride begins at 10 a.m. and Santerre will be available for autographs and a social gathering at 4:30 p.m. with dinner at 6 in the main banquet room. The auction commences at 7 p.m.
A donation of $50 gets participants in to both the ride and the dinner/auction or choose one event for $25. Organizers recommend an early sign-up as last year’s event sold out.

Baseball Fantasy Trip
The Alfond Youth Center is sponsoring the fifth annual Baseball Fantasy Trip from Aug. 7-12.
Participants travel to Montreal where they will take in games featuring professional teams from Toronto, New York, Philadelphia, Florida, Baltimore and Boston.
Costs for the six-day trip is $745 which is includes everything except food. For more information call Vaughn Clark at 873-0684 ext. 221.
