PRESQUE ISLE – When it comes to purchasing and maintaining a vehicle, customers often look for a business with experience. In Presque Isle, one local business can boast 45 years’ experience in vehicle sales and maintenance.
“We’re celebrating our 45th anniversary this year. The business was founded by Percy Pelkey, who passed away in 1995,” said Scott Norton, general manager of Percy’s Auto Sales.
Originally called Percy’s Auto and Trailer Sales and located at 690 Main Street, the business moved to its present site at 40 Houlton Road in 1993.
Whether you’re in need of a new or used vehicle or just need some repair work done, Percy’s staff is ready to meet those needs.
“We’re a franchise dealer for Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge brands. We have a full line of new vehicles but also offer used cars, trucks and SUVs. We also have a full service department, with a staff of factory-trained technicians,” said Norton.
Percy’s also offers new car leasing.
“Leasing makes sense for many people. Many people like the idea of upgrading to a new model every few years,” he said.
The family-owned business prides itself in offering high-quality service, be it sales or maintenance. In an effort to provide the best service possible, Percy’s is currently undergoing an upgrade of its facility.
“We’re currently undergoing a complete makeover on the outside of the building and working on a new parts/service entrance – a separate entrance for that department,” said Norton. “We’ll have an expanded parts department for both retail and wholesale customers.”
Percy’s serves customers from throughout Aroostook County and beyond.
“We have the only Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep franchise in Aroostook County, so people interested in those brands come to us,” said Norton.
As makes and models change, so does the lineup at Percy’s.
“We’re expanding – carrying newer models as they come out. Jeep is coming out with the Jeep Compass car – a passenger car with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. That’s a new, economical, entry-level car that’s fuel efficient – gets around 30 mpg,” said Norton.
If you’re interested in SUVs, the Jeep Patriot will be arriving shortly for 2007, continued Norton.
“That’s a small SUV. Again, the emphasis is on all-wheel drive. That’s important to people. And it’s economical, getting about 30 mpg. And the pricing is good too,” said Norton.
The business has a staff of 17, including Parts Manager Travis Chapman, Service Manager Joe Pelkey, Service Department Advisor Charlie Michaud and Sales Manager Bruce Guerrette.
Business hours for the sales department are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The service department is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“Saturday the parts department is open 8 a.m. to noon. The sales department is open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday,” said Norton.

Norton said the company will continue to look for ways to better serve customers.
“With the renovations we’re doing right now, we intend to stay modernized to serve the public for years to come. We’re a family business and want to stress that we’re family owned and operated. We hope families will continue to rely on our services many years from now. We see folks coming in who’ve dealt with us before, bringing in their children. We’d like to see those children, in turn, bring their children in when it comes time for them to need a vehicle,” said Norton.
