PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The Wintergreen Arts Center (WGAC) will offer its first art classes for children, teens and adults in February. Registration for classes will begin at the WGAC, located in the Aroostook Centre Mall, on Saturday, Feb. 3 from 1-5 p.m., and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
The public is invited to tour the classroom and studio spaces, meet the staff, and view the curriculum at that time. Registration and class information is available at www.wintergreenarts.org.
“We’re thrilled!” said Lara Cannon, director of the WGAC. “So many individuals and local businesses have worked so hard, donating their time, money, and supplies, to bring this about. We are especially grateful to the Mall for donating the space, for the recent generous donation from Steve Willett, and for the $5,000 grant from the Maine Community Foundation. These gifts put our fund-raising at a level that allows us to open on schedule, and keep the classes affordable.”
Developed for children, teens and adults, the classes will be offered at $5 per hour of instruction. Children may choose from classes in painting, drawing and sculpting. Teens and adults will be offered sculpting, digital filmmaking, printmaking, comic book making, drawing, painting, fashion modeling, and African drumming classes.
After the registration event at the WGAC, registration forms will be available at the Mall’s Customer Service Desk, Morning Star Art & Framing, Pieces of Eight, and the Mark and Emily Turner Memorial Library.
The Wintergreen Arts Center was established in 2006. Its mission is to provide an atmosphere rich in the creative arts for the residents of and visitors to Aroostook County. For more information, visit www.wintergreenarts.org or contact Cannon at 207-551-0936.
