Presque Isle

Grades 5 and 6 girls basketball
The Liberty put two scorers in double digits on their way to the 29-10 victory over the Stars. Hannah Guerrette led the Liberty with 15 points. Courtney Carney also finished in double digits, ending with a season high 10 points. Kelsey Burlock rounded out the scoring with four points. Sara Gilson and Elena Ford each scored four points for the Stars. Jaylyn Levasseur added two points.

  The Liberty held off the Mercury, 26-20, for their second win of the week. Hannah Guerrette led the Liberty with 12 points. Courtney Carney chipped in with eight points and Kelsey Burlock added six points. The Mercury were led by a game high 14 points from Carly Bell. Amanda Charette contributed four points, and Lora Ireland scored two points.

Grades 5 and 6 boys basketball
The Spurs used a balanced scoring attack to down the Pistons 27-23. Cody Lyford led the way for the Spurs with 11 points. Michael Guerrette and Karson Wilcox each chipped in with six points, and Bradley Shields and Jeremy Shaw both scored two points. The Pistons were led by Karson Eaton’s nine points. Brandon LeBlanc and Hale Cushman scored six points apiece and Carter LaPointe rounded out the scoring with two points.
The Celtics held off a late comeback by the Spurs to pick up the 29-26 victory. Khyver Lowe led the Celtics with 11 points. Drew Bates poured in eight points, and Drew Barrett knocked down six points. Josh Gordon finished off the Celtics’ scoring with four points. The Spurs got a game high 12 points from Bradley Shields to help the comeback. Cody     Lyford and Jeremy Shaw both finished with six points, and Craig Nadeau added two points.

    Vacation week activities
The Presque Isle Recreation Department will be offering several activities for vacation week.
On Tuesday there will be roller-skating in Caribou. Wednesday there will be a group traveling to the Caribou Cinemas.     Thursday morning there is bowling at Northern Lanes, and there is ice skating in the afternoon at the Forum. Friday is dollar day at the pool for Presque Isle residents. Also on Friday there will be a bus taking students snow tubing at Big Rock. In addition to these activities, there will be daily open gym hours, which are the times as the weekend. Some activities require pre-registration. Little All-Stars
The PI Recreation Department is now accepting registrations for the Little All-Stars Sports Class. Participants will be introduced to five different sports; soccer, floor hockey, basketball, football and t-ball. Through games and instruction, the focus will be on fun and the basic fundamentals of each sport.
The group is open to children ages four and five and will start March 2. The fee is $15 to register for the five-week program which will meet on Friday mornings.

Big Rock ski passes
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has discounted lift tickets for Big Rock Ski Area in Mars Hill. Junior (ages 6 to 17) lift tickets will be sold for $14, or 22-percent off the regular price, while adult lift tickets will be sold for $19, or 24-percent off the regular price. Youth open gym
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has started its open gym hours on Sundays and Saturdays throughout the winter from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Grades 1-5 are welcome from 1 to 3, and junior high and high school students are welcome from 3 to 5. Available activities include gym games, board games, ping pong, foosball, and pool. There is no cost.

Middle School Only open gym
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will offer a middle school only open gym time on Friday evenings from 6:30-9 p.m. Students in grades 6-8 are invited to come and participate in open gym and other activities. Possible group activities, such as tubing and bowling, may be scheduled for future dates. This is open to SAD 1 students only.

Adult evening activities
Due to lack of participation, Sunday night dodgeball and Monday night volleyball have been canceled for the year. The current schedule is as follows: Tuesday-men’s basketball; Wednesday-dodgeball; Thursday-men’s basketball. All programs run from 7-9 p.m., and there is a $1 fee per activity per night.

Presque Isle Indoor Pool
The Presque Isle Indoor Pool will have special general swim hours for the February school vacation. The hours are:     Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1-2:45 p.m. and Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday from 7-8:45 p.m.     Dollar day will be Friday, Feb. 23 from 3-4:45 p.m. for Presque Isle residents.
The Presque Isle Indoor Pool will be offering a new American Red Cross lifeguard class. The class will be offered Feb. 21, 22, and 23 from 9-4 p.m. You must be 15 years old and be able to swim 300 yards using front crawl and breaststroke.     You must be able to pick-up a brick in deep end of pool and tow it back to the shallow end in a time requirement. Prepaid registration is required for this class.
The Presque Isle Indoor Pool will also be offering a swim clinic. The class will work on stroke techniques, turns, and starts. This class will start on Feb. 28 and continue on March 1, 7, 8, 14, and 15 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. each of these days. Prepaid registration is required.

Fort Fairfield

 Skating Party and BBQ
The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department would like to invite adults and children to a skating party at the Fort Fairfield outdoor ice rink on Saturday, Feb. 17 from noon-4 p.m.
Hot dogs will be served, free of charge, from noon-2 p.m. Come join in on the fun. Skate with friends, enjoy some fresh air and have a hot dog. There are some ice skates available for use in the warming hut located next to the ice rink.

Snow tubing
The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department will be offering a snow tubing trip on Tuesday, Feb. 20 from noon-3 p.m. at Big Rock Ski Area in Mars Hill.
The cost is $8 per person, which includes the use of a snow tube. The bus will depart from the Community Center at 11:15 a.m. and will return to the Community Center at approximately 3:45 p.m.
Participants are reminded to dress according to the weather and for the activity. Registration is required. Participants must be 9 years of age to attend alone. Anyone under the age of 9 must be accompanied by a responsible chaperone.
Registration forms must be returned by Friday, Feb. 16 so that an accurate head count can be made for transportation purposes. It will be first come, first served.

Movie matinee
The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department will be offering a matinee at the Caribou Movie Theater on Wednesday, Feb. 21. The start time for the movie is 1 p.m.
The bus will depart from the Community Center at 12:15 p.m. and will return to the Community Center at approximately 3 p.m.
Movies being offered will be announced at a later date. The cost is $3 per person, which includes one movie ticket, one soda and one popcorn.
Registration is required and forms must be returned by Feb. 16 for an individual to be eligible to attend.
Participants must be 9 years of age to attend alone. Anyone under the age of 9 must be accompanied by a responsible chaperone.
