Hotshot results
The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department held its local Hotshot Basketball competition Feb. 12 and 13. There were approximately 20 boys and girls who participated in the Fort Fairfield Hotshot event. The competition is for boys and girls ages 9-18 (boys compete separate from girls).
Hotshot basketball is a basketball skills competition that involves shooting from five “hot spots” marked on the court and the competition tests speed, shooting, dribbling, and rebounding.
The following boys and girls competed in the Fort Fairfield Hotshot competition and the top three finishers in each age group have qualified to compete in the Northern Regional competition to be held at Caribou High School on Feb. 22 at 10 a.m.
Congratulations to all of the participants and good luck to those top finishers as they head to the northern regional. All of the participants showed good sportsmanship during the event and everyone did a great job!

Fort Fairfield hosts girls’ Pee Wee championships
The annual Aroostook County Pee Wee Girls’ Basketball Single Elimination Tournament was hosted by the Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department on Saturday, Feb. 10. Eight teams traveled to the Fort Fairfield Community Center from throughout Aroostook County.
The Caribou girls pulled out the championship title, successfully defending their 2006 crown. Other participating teams included Washburn, Mars Hill, Ashland, Fort Fairfield, Madawaska, Limestone and Presque Isle. All girls participating were in grades 6 and under.
The tournament began at 9 a.m. Saturday morning and ended with the championship game being played at 3:30pm between the Caribou Vikings and the Ashland Hornets. The Vikings went on to win the championship game by a score of 36-6.
Other game scores saw Fort Fairfield defeat Mars Hill 28-12; Caribou defeat Washburn, 27-8; Ashland defeat Presque Isle 20-18 in overtime; Madawaska defeat Limestone 14-12 in overtime; and Caribou defeat Fort Fairfield 25-15.
Making the all-tournament team were Emily Blaisdell from Fort Fairfield, Lindsey Lavoie from Madawaska, Gabby Cyr and Kayla Cote from Ashland and Rebecca McDougal and Alexa Massey from Caribou.
Congratulations to all of the teams, coaches, and fans for a great tournament and the exhibition of great sportsmanship by all of those involved from the players to the fans. This made for a very successful tournament. Thanks to all involved.
