BANGOR, Maine – The Presque Isle varsity hockey team wrapped up their season Saturday with a tough 3-2 loss against John Bapst despite outshooting their opponents 20-15.
The Crusaders got the early lead but the Wildcats came storming back in the second period behind an unassisted goal by Brennen Shaw and a goal by Ben McPherson with assists by Brandon Daigle and Spencer Deschene.
John Bapst evened the score to end the second and scored again early in the third for the win.
Ethan Hill stopped 12 shots in goal for Presque Isle.
Last Tuesday, the Wildcats hosted their final home game of the regular season and went out with a bang. The team outshot Old Town 41-32 and earned an 11-4 win.
The teams went into the second period tied but Presque Isle put up five goals to take the lead for good. The team added four in the third for their final tally.
Dylan Collins led the way with three goals and three assists. Daigle also scored a hat trick and Shaw added a pair. Jared Buck, Sean Flanagin and Greg Cyr pounded in goals for the Wildcats as well.
Assists came from Collins, Cyr with three, McPherson and Shaw with two each and Flanagin, Matt Talbot, Josh Buck and Jason Martin with one each.
Hill stopped 28 shots in goal for the ‘Cats.
Ranked fourth as of Tuesday’s Eastern Maine Class B standings, the Wildcats are primed to host a quarterfinal game against John Bapst either Friday or Saturday if Wednesday’s final standings stay the same.
