PRESQUE ISLE – Northern Maine Community College will host a community job fair Thursday, March 8 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the College’s gymnasium. More than 40 businesses will have representatives on hand to discuss their companies and possible job opportunities, as well as to collect resumes.
“As we approach graduation, this is an ideal opportunity for our seniors who have not yet lined up a job to get their resumes out and do some serious job searching. We have also opened this job fair up to members of the local community, so area residents could take advantage of this opportunity to find a job or perhaps make a career change,” said Jason Parent, director of development and college relations.
“This is not just a chance to find a job,” said Ruth White, coordinator of the event. “Just the opportunity to talk with prospective employers is a great experience. Talking with employers at the job fair, whether or not you actually get a job, helps to better prepare you for the job-hunting process. It’s also a great networking opportunity and can make you aware of options that you may not have considered.”
White urges attendees to bring copies of their resumes, since employer feedback from previous job fairs indicates that they really want to see them.
“Consider this a job interview, and dress accordingly, so that you make a great first impression,” White advises.
Businesses represented at the job fair cover a wide spectrum of occupations … from office and retail to health care and industrial. Military recruiters will also be present, as well as representatives from businesses, which provide job placement assistance, such as the Career Center and Tempo Employment Services.
“We hope that community members will make the trip to campus on Thursday, March 8 to take advantage of this opportunity,” said Parent.
