ENFIELD, CT – Mary H. “Dolly” Bean, 89, of Enfield, CT, entered into her eternal rest on Sunday, February 18, 2007 at her home. Born on October 25, 1917, in Perth-Andover, New Brunswick, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Hazel (Towle) Hutcheon.
    Mary graduated from Aroostook State Normal School earning her teaching degree. Her first teaching job was in a one room schoolhouse. Mary worked along side her husband in his general store and post office in Westfield, MA and prior to her retirement, she was a substitute teacher for the Enfield Board of Education. She was a member of the Democratic Town Committee and was an activist for the Democratic Party. A longtime member of the Enfield community, she was active in every local, state, and national issue or town referendum. Mary was a member of the League of Women Voters, the Tax Review Committee and she served on the Central Library Building Committee. She was one of several individuals who started the first Head Start Program in Enfield. Mary was a member of the Enfield Quilting Guild and her passion for quilting led to many award winning creations. Some of her work was proudly displayed in her home.
    A loving mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother, she is survived by her three daughters, Patricia Ann Cruso and her husband, Thomas Cruso of Aquebogue, NY; Mary Margaret McCallum and her husband, Father Lynn McCallum of Toledo, OH; and Prudence Bean and her husband, Nicholas Beram of Worcester, MA; her son, Joseph Michael Bean and his wife, Kathyrn of Queensbury, NY; ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mary’s beloved husband of 66 years, Thomas F. Bean predeceased her on August 16, 2006. She was also predeceased by her two brothers; James and George Hutcheon and a sister; Barbara Winkler.
    Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in the Hazardville section of Enfield. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Mary’s family received relatives and friends at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield on Friday, February 23, 2007 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to the Home & Community Health Services, Inc.
