The boys and girls volleyball teams from the county competed March 21 in the Division I Aroostook League Volleyball Tournaments. Presque Isle High School hosted the girls tourney, while the boys met at Caribou High School.
In Presque Isle, teams from Madawaska, Caribou, Fort Kent, Presque Isle and Houlton had an afternoon and evening of volleyball matches. The girls played preliminary games in the afternoon before the championship match began. The top two teams were chosen to play for first place in a best two out of three match.
After the preliminaries, Madawaska and Presque Isle were tied for first with a record of 6-2; Fort Kent was third with 5-3; Houlton was fourth with 3-5; and Caribou was fifth with a record of 0-8.
In the championship match, Presque Isle defeated Madawaska in the first two matches with a score of 25-18 in the first and 25-21 in the second.
In Caribou, the boys also had preliminary games before the championship game was held. The final records were Houlton, in first, with 10-0; Madawaska and Fort Kent, with records of 4-4, were tied, until Madawaska defeated Fort Kent in a tie breaker for second. Caribou and Presque Isle were tied for fourth with a record of 2-6.
After the championship match, Houlton came out the victorious team, and kept their perfect undefeated record for the tournament.
