Poitraw, John G., 67, died April 11, 2007 at a Presque Isle hospital. A memorial service will be held at the VFW Hall in Ashland, 2 p.m., Saturday, April 21. Arrangements are in the care of Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home, Ashland. ASHLAND – John G. Poitraw, Sr., 67, died April 11, 2007 at a Presque Isle hospital. He was born in Ashland, May 18, 1939, the son of Andrew and Celia (O'Clair) Poitraw.
He was employed as a heavy equipment operator in the lumber industry for many years. John was an Army veteran and a member of the VFW LeBlanc-Junkins Post 9699 of Ashland.
He is survived by two sons, John Poitraw, Jr. and his companion, Sue Leach of Sheridan, and Joseph Poitraw of California; three daughters, Sherry Hitchcock and her husband Todd of Presque Isle, Peggy Collins of Bangor, Stacy Moir and her husband Allen of Woodland; one stepdaughter, Jamie Cyr and her husband Dave of China; one brother, Roland Poitraw and his wife Jean of Ashland; three sisters, Clairette Hebert of East Hartford, CT, Dorothy Willette and Ellen Boulier, both of Sheridan; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by special friends and caregivers, Galen Campbell, Jerry Giggey, Gary Burby, and Sue Leach. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Patricia (Junkins) Poitraw in 2003.
A memorial service will be held at the VFW Hall in Ashland at 2 PM on Saturday, April 21. Interment will be in the Masardis Municipal Cemetery, later this spring.
