PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The 24th annual Presque Isle Kiwanis Home, Garden & Recreation Show is a true sign of spring in the Star City … no matter how much snow we’ve gotten this month.
According to Kathie Beaulieu, co-chair of the Home, Garden & Recreation Show, this year’s exhibition will feature gardening and flower displays, campers, home improvement resources, recreation equipment, the Presque Isle Fire Department’s fire safety house, and more.
“We have a wide variety of exhibitors who will attend this year’s show,” said Beaulieu, “but we still have spaces available if someone wants to get in touch with us.
“This year has been a difficult year in soliciting exhibitors,” she said, “because it seems that more people are trying different ventures. Some landscapers that we’ve had in the past are doing different things, so we might not have as many garden-type vendors, but we’re working to fill the remaining slots.”
The Home, Garden & Recreation Show will be held Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sunday, April 22 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at The Forum in Presque Isle.
Beaulieu said the show will feature some new exhibitors, as well as the “tried and true” vendors that patrons have come to expect. There will also be activities that children will enjoy.
“The Presque Isle High School Key Club will be at the Homeless Shelter’s booth doing face painting and temporary tattoos for kids,” she said, “and the Caribou Children’s Museum will have a display, as well. Another attraction for children will be the fire department’s safety house, so we encourage parents to bring their children along to the show.”
Typically families considering home improvement projects attend the yearly attraction.
“We see a wide variety of people attending the show … a lot of families who are looking to do home improvement projects, but there’s literally something for everyone,” said Beaulieu.
“If anyone is doing any home project or landscaping, the show is a good place to see all of the exhibitors and businesses all at once so you’re not running all over town trying to track down information.
“It’s a chance to get out of the house,” she said, “and a lot of exhibitors will do a special promotion and have discount prices on certain things, so people could probably get a good deal if they visit a vendor at the show.”
Admission is $3. Children 12 and under are admitted free. Proceeds will go toward the Kiwanis Club’s various projects.
