The Junior Miss Mars Hill Pageant will be held on Saturday, April 21, at 7 p.m. There are five young ladies vying for the title: Alexis Brewer, Patricia Donovan, Katelyn Cole, Kellie Stitham and Mariah Brewer.
This year’s pageant is under the direction of Janice Mosher and Sami Allen. Tickets are $7 and may be purchased in advance from any contestant or at the door.
United Methodist Women
The monthly meeting of the Mars Hill United Methodist Women was held in the church vestry on April 8 at 1 p.m. with 10 members and two guests.
President Janice Footer opened the meeting leading all in the Purpose Pledge and Prayer. She then turned the meeting over to Program Chairman Joan Boone, who introduced the guest speakers Irma and Steven Pearl.
Representing the Salvation Army, their home office is located in Houlton, but their work takes them
throughout Aroostook County.
General William Booth, a Methodist minister, organized a ministry known as Mission Work in London’s East End slums in 1865. This work is still carried on, providing food, shelter, clothing and other needs for the less-fortunate living in the U.S.A. and many other countries.
The meeting was turned back to President Footer. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and accepted as read.
Thank you notes were received from the Walter T. A. Hansen Library, the homeless shelter and the Winterfest Committee.
A letter was read from Northern Maine UMW District secretary reminding the members of the April 18 meeting in Mapleton. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. A special program is planned. It was voted to give President Footer $25 for suggested gifts for the homeless to take to the district meeting as part of a missionary project.
The benediction was repeated. Boone read a special prayer blessing the food. Delicious refreshments were provided by Elaine Bailey and Boone.
Those attending were: Janice Footer, Joan Walsh, Frances Banks, Elaine Bailey, Donna Brewer, Joan
Boone, Diane Ketchum, Goldie Folsom, Ruth Sylvester and Clara Hussey.

Senior citizens’ meals
The Central Aroostook High School cafeteria will be a meal site for area senior citizens on Tuesdays,
beginning February 27. Senior citizens will be served at 12 noon each Tuesday that school is in session.  The cost of the meal will be $3.25, payable at the meal site.
Please call Sylvia at 429-8464 by the Monday before each Tuesday to sign up.

Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday morning at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill.
Rotarian Steve Hitchcock gave his classification. He and his wife have recently returned to the Mars Hill area. Although they have visited many times over the years, returning to live here has brought home to them the sense of ‘belonging’ that living in a small town brings. Steve is looking forward to fiddleheading and fishing – although he wishes the limit is what it was years ago!
Steve enjoys tying flies and carving ducks and decoys.
