Wintergreen Arts Center to celebrate Earth Day 2007

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Are you spring cleaning and need some shelf space at home? Are your children mostly grown and no longer use those cherished art supplies? Fill a bag with supplies you’d like to share, donate, or trade and join others at the Wintergreen Arts Center for an Earth Day celebration with recycled materials!
On Saturday, April 21 from noon-3 p.m., people of all ages will be collecting and trading their best “junk.” Fill a bag with whatever art supplies you’d like to share, then empty and refill the same bag with something that catches your eye from several recyclable tables at the Wintergreen Arts Center. Or, if you would like to make a donation of art supplies to the Center, a table will also be set up to accept your donation of paper, crayons, paint, glitter, glue, fabric scraps, feathers, felt, art books, etc.!
Learn about recycling with a representative from the Presque Isle Recycling Center. Earth Day activities include recyclable art creations and a hands-on paper making demonstration!
Admission is free to members and $2 for non-members. One-year memberships are available for purchase at all Open Studio Events. Please visit our Web site at www.wintergreenarts.org for more information on memberships, upcoming classes, Open Studio events and art center news.
The Wintergreen Arts Center opened its doors in February 2007. Officials have just completed their first Winter Arts schedule, in which over 100 students registered. The spring schedule will be available April 27, and classes are scheduled to begin May 1. Also, plan to register for the “Teen Tie Dye” Open Studio on Saturday, April 28.
Wintergreen Arts Center is a non-profit organization that has been formed through an energetic volunteer effort made by more than 100 volunteers since its inception in January 2006. The vision and efforts have attracted the support of many community leaders in business, state and local government, and the arts. The Aroostook Centre Mall has donated commercial mall space to serve as a temporary home for classes and programming. The donated space has been critical to helping the Center meet the challenge of opening its doors and keeping the classes and workshops affordable to the public.
Through a generous gift from Steve Willett, a founder of ATX, a $5,000 grant from the Maine Arts Commission Expansion Fund, and gifts of time, money, and goods from local businesses and individuals, the Wintergreen Arts Center is able to open its doors.
The long-term vision of the Center is to offer a beautiful and lasting community space for all to enjoy. For more information, visit www.wintergreenarts.org or contact Lara Cannon at (207) 551-0936.
