Sports Legend Scholars wanted

The Northern Region of the Maine Sports Legends is accepting applications from local senior scholar-athletes for their annual scholarships. Applications have been mailed to all Aroostook area guidance offices. The deadline for an application is the first Tuesday in May.
   The Maine Sports Legends is a statewide organization dedicated to honoring outstanding scholar-athletes who have met the prescribed standards in academics, participated in varsity athletic programs, possess good character, completed community and civic involvement and show strong leadership ability. This scholarship of $500 is awarded to one boy and girl from Aroostook County and will be awarded solely on the basis of the student’s credentials and shall be made without regard to financial need. There will be eight $500 scholarships awarded statewide.
Of the eight chosen scholar-athletes, there will be one boy and girl chosen to receive an additional $1,000 scholarship. This scholarship will be announced at the Maine Sports Legends State Banquet in Waterville on Oct. 7, 2007.
The Northern Area is proud to acknowledge McCain of Easton as one of our 2007 scholarship donors. Many local businesses and individuals have provided financial donations to our scholarship program over the past years. In 2006 Katahdin Trust Company was a scholarship donor. Our Northern Region of Sports Legends is looking forward to continuing this relationship with local businesses and individuals for our 2007 scholarships and for those granted in the future.
