Rotary wheels
The Washburn Rotary will be holding their annual Rotary Supper and Auction on Saturday, April 28, at the high school. Items can still be donated by contacting any Rotarian or Auction Chairperson Peggy Bugbee.
The supper starts at 5 p.m. with the auction to follow. Their menu this year includes turkey and roast beef, along with side dishes including potatoes, peas, rolls, carrots, strawberry shortcake and coffee and tea.
There will be lots of different activities taking place throughout the evening including a silent auction and the $100 door prize. There will be an informational table for new memberships and some bonds and cash raffled off as well. There will also be some special pledge cards available for the Bob Ellis Playground Equipment Fund.
The supper tickets are $6 and are available from any Rotarian or at the door.
This is the local club’s major fund-raising event for the year and people are urged to attend.
Don’t forget to pick up your copy of the 2007 Rotary calendar. It features photos of the Washburn, Wade, Perham and Crouseville areas throughout history. The photo collage for the month of May will include Wade farming scenes from the farms of Al Dickinson, Sterling Fox, Henry and Robert Cunningham and Alton Bragg.

White’s sets new hours
In an effort to supply gas on Sundays in Washburn, White’s Exxon will be open for just four hours, from 10 a.m. to 2 p. m. The gas station is hoping to not only assist residents who forgot to fill up but to assist with the supply of gas to those riding our area ATV trails this coming spring and summer.
Upcoming events/reminders
There will be an SAD 45 School Board meeting held at 7 p.m. at the elementary school cafeteria on Monday, May 7. All interested residents are urged to attend.
The Perham Planning Board will meet on Tuesday, May 1, at 7 p.m. at the Perham Town Hall and meetings are open to all town residents.

Washburn’s Paul Clayton and Friends play at the K of C building in Presque Isle on the second and last Saturday of each month. Their next scheduled session will be held on Saturday, April 28.
The next order week of the Friendly Co-Op will be held on Monday, May 7 through Friday, May 11. The scheduled pick-up date is Friday, May 18. For further information, phone Brenda Helton at 455-8421.
August Festival
The August Festival Committee is requesting some local talent to step forward and help with the Saturday Night Show. They are interested in groups who will be available to put on acts, skits, songs, comedy acts and other talents. Each group will have the stage and spotlight for 10 to 15 minutes to share their talents with the audience. The committee hopes to have some input and volunteers for their June Festival Committee meeting. The next scheduled Festival Committee meeting has been set for Wednesday, May 2, at the Civic Center starting at 6:30 p.m.
Kindergarten registration
SAD 45, Perham, Wade and Washburn, will hold registration for children entering pre-kindergarten in the fall. Registration is scheduled for Friday, April 27, at the elementary school from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. by appointment only.
To be eligible for pre-kindergarten, a child must be four years old or older on or before October 15. A valid state birth certificate and immunization record must be presented at the time of registration.
Project Graduation
On Friday, April 27, there will be a special Bingo Night held at the Washburn Snowmobile Clubhouse on Station Road. Proceeds from the event will go towards the fundraising efforts for the Class of 2007 Project Graduation events.
Members of the Class of 2007 cordially invite the general public to attend a special spaghetti dinner scheduled for Saturday, May 12, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The senior class members will be selling tickets in the near future for this event.
ATV news
The last scheduled meeting of the Washburn Beavers ATV Club was postponed and has been rescheduled for Wednesday, May 2. This will be an important meeting as election of officers will be held as well as voting on bylaw revisions. Members can request a copy of the proposed bylaw changes at washburnatv@yahoo.com.
The club will also be sending out a mailing to all who registered an ATV in the towns of Perham, Wade, Washburn and Crouseville. This will include a notice of the meeting, copy of the bylaw changes and a club application.
One special reminder is that all trails will be closed for ‘mud season’ until May 15.
Fire Department embers
On Saturday, April 28, from 6 to 9 a.m., the Washburn Fire Department will be holding a Pancake Breakfast at the firehouse. The tasty pancakes will be served with a wide variety of toppings from syrups to fruity jellies and jams. The cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for ages 12 and under. Proceeds from this event will go towards tools and training for the Washburn Fire Department.
High School Theatre
The play, “Nightmare High School” will be presented by the Class of 2007 at the high school gymnasium on Sunday, May 6, at 3 p.m. and on Monday, May 7, at 7 p.m.
Admission prices are $5 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizen tickets are $2.
Library Bookmarks
National Library Week was held during the week of April 15 through 21, and Washburn Memorial Library celebrated it by having the April Story Time. The theme for Story Time was “Come Together @ Your Library.” Rebecca Tarbox read the book “Read Any Good Books Lately?” by Susan Allen and Jane Lindaman. Karen Tompkins read “Clemens Kingdom” by Chris L. Demarest. Liz Espling read “Let’s Visit the Library” by Marianne Johnson.
Those attending enjoyed punch and cookies, and they also participated in drawing an ad for National Library Week. They drew a picture of the Washburn Library and stated their favorite books. These ads are hung in the library for all to see. The Door prize winners included Nick Doody, Mykayla Espling, Valerie Flood, Skylar Mette, Cody Anderson, Laina Mette, Jenica Harris, Scott Flood, Adriana Arribas, Nick Baechle and Richie Stickney. The children each received a bookmark for attending.
The Middle School Book Group also met during National Library Week. The book of the month was “Eragon” by Christopher Paolini. Those attending were: Desiraie Rediker, Mykayla Espling, Kalle Griffin, Shanae Burtt, Taylor Arruda and Nick Silver. The students enjoyed pizza and punch and received a bookmark.
