SAD 45 needs

To the editor:
As concerned citizens of the towns of Washburn, Wade and Perham, we have become increasingly alarmed over the conditions in SAD 45, Washburn District Schools.

Over the past months there have been serious management, financial and personnel problems. The recent resignations of five administrators and officials including the superintendent, the finance director, the high school principal, the special education director and the school board chairwoman are clear indicators that SAD 45 needs assistance.
The SAD 45 Board of Directors is looking to SAD 1, Presque Isle for this assistance. They are requesting that Mr. Gehrig Johnson be allowed to serve as interim superintendent in SAD 45. We are definitely opposed to this idea. As Mr. Johnson is already busy serving as Superintendent in SAD 1, Presque Isle, as interim superintendent in SAD 32, Ashland and as interim superintendent for Bridgewater school, we do not feel that he would be able to spend the time required to address the many problems in our district.
Believing as we do, we have sent a letter to the SAD 1 Board of Directors stating the reasons why we oppose the idea of Mr. Johnson serving as interim superintendent in SAD 45 and asking them to vote against this idea.
SAD 45 needs and deserves an interim superintendent who has the time to focus solely on the matters concerning the Washburn District Schools.
