Sticks available to Vietnam vets

To the editor:
This letter was sent to only 54 Vietnam Veterans currently on our mailing list. Your help is needed to get this invitation out to your Vietnam-era associates that here in Bangor on May 28, Memorial Day at 9:15 a.m. prior to the start of the Bangor Parade Vietnam Veterans participating by either walking or riding a First Student bus are eligible to receive a gifted Maine hardwood walking stick identical to those supplied a year ago to Korean Veterans and years earlier to veterans of WWII.
The Vietnam era sticks will be engraved with Vietnam War on the knob and display the American flag plus a special decal in yellow, green and red color scheme suggested by Wayne Cartier, vice-president of the State of Maine Vietnam Veterans of America.
Please pass the word that Vietnam Veterans only who come to the TD Banknorth building at the corner of Exchange and Washington Streets from 9:15 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. parade start time with identification will receive this special engraved stick for their use and for future parades.
All veterans from WWII, Korea, and Vietnam will march as a unit in the parade with each group walking behind its banner.
Following the parade, the annual 1 p.m. commemoration of the Vietnam and WWII monuments plus band concert and USO show will take place at the Cole Land Transportation Museum. Details of this other veteran events will be coming later this month.
Right now the ball is in your court to get the word to fellow Vietnam Veterans of this special gift offer.
