Special to the Star-Herald
May 6-12 is the 93rd Annual Be Kind to Animals Week! Animals are a very important part of our lives, our society and our culture. They share our homes, yards, parks, farms and open spaces. The American Humane’s Be Kind to Animals Week promotes kindness to all animals and encourages adults and children to honor the companionship, friendship and love animals bring to our lives.
In honor of Be Kind to Animals Week, the Central Aroostook Humane Society wants everyone to take time to appreciate their companion animals. In addition, the following are a few suggestions of ways to show kindness to animals who do not live in your home:
• Encourage family and friends to spay or neuter their pets;
• Create a unique space for wildlife;
• Report animal abuse or neglect;
• Volunteer at your local animal shelter; and
• Speak out on the importance of respecting animals.
If you would like someone from the shelter to speak to your group, give the Central Aroostook Humane Society a call at 764-3441. We will gladly visit with your group and provide educational material free! We also offer free tours of our shelter. And don’t forget Story Time which will be Saturday, May 19, at 10 a.m.
When the time is right to add a pet to your family, please consider adopting a homeless pet from the Central Aroostook Humane Society. If you have time to donate, please visit the Central Aroostook Humane Society and learn more about how you can help make the lives of the homeless animals of our area a little bit better.
Please have your pets spayed or neutered.
