Teams compete in first games of season

    Teams from across the county played some of their first season games last week. After the late melt the area experienced, the teams were more than ready to get out of the gyms and into the fields.

Thursday, April 26
Both the varsity softball and baseball teams from Presque Isle and Caribou met up to have their first rival games of the season. The Lady Wildcats traveled to Caribou and won the game 18-8. The Vikings were tied with PI until the seventh inning, when the Cats turned up the heat and scored 11 runs in the last two innings to come up ahead.
The boys varsity game was held at Limestone Community School, and Caribou barely scraped past PI with a score of 6-4. Philip St. Peter, of Caribou, doubled in the bottom of the seventh to push the  Vikings over the top.
Ashland’s varsity baseball team also traveled to Hodgdon and returned home the victors with a score of 13-7.
Saturday, April 28
Fort Fairfield’s track and field teams traveled to Orono High School. Fort Fairfield’s boys team came in eighth with a score of 24. The Lady Tigers came in fourth overall at the meet with a score of 41.
Monday, April 30
Even though the weather was a little rainy on Monday, it was still better than snow, so Washburn traveled to Fort Fairfield for their baseball and softball games. The Tiger’s baseball team thumped Washburn, with a score of 10-1. However, Washburn’s softball team gave Fort Fairfield a run for their money with a close and exciting game. In the end, it was Fort Fairfield brining in the extra run and winning the game with a score of 15-14.
