Presque Isle takes swim meet

The Presque Isle swim team took first place in a swim meet held at Fort Kent July 11.     High-point winners in their respective age divisions were: 8 and under girls, Elise Guerrette of Presque Isle; 8 and under boys, Jacob Kinney of Presque Isle; 9-10 girls, Sophie Ouellette of Fort Kent; 9-10 boys, Ethan Plourde of Caribou; 11-12 girls, Morgan Swan of Caribou; 11-12 boys, Isaac Estey of Mapleton; 13-14 girls, Erica Hemphill of Presque Isle; 13-14 boys, Stephen Goulet of Presque Isle; 15-18 girls, Karrie Brawn of Presque Isle; 15-18 boys, Kyle Maier of Caribou.
In 8-and-under girls races, Guerrette was first and Katie Goulet second in the freestyle, the backstroke and the butterfly. Goulet was the winner and Guerrette was the runner-up in the breaststroke.
For the boys, Kinney won both the freestyle and the breaststroke, with Leigh Buck taking the backstroke and Colin Daigle the butterfly.
For 9-10 girls, Morgan Wilcox of Presque Isle was second and Abbie Estey of Mapleton third in the freestyle. In the backstroke, Wilcox took third place, while Krystal Kingsbury of Presque Isle won the breaststroke, followed by Emma Kinney of Presque Isle. Estey took the butterfly, while Kinney was second in the individual medley.
In boys races, Brendon Goulet of Presque Isle was second in the freestyle, Bradley Kinney of Presque Isle took third in the backstroke, Parker Lambert of Presque Isle won the breaststroke, with Ryan Lavway of Mapleton in second; Lambert also took the individual medley and was second in the butterfly.
Presque Isle’s best performances in the girls’ 11-12 division were turned in by Emma Michalowski, who was third in two events and fourth in two others; Jacqueline Lambert, who won the breaststroke; Kayla Girardin, who was third in the breaststroke, third in the butterfly and fourth in the I.M. and Kaleigh Kinney, who was second in the breaststroke.
On the boys side, Isaac Estey of Mapleton won the freestyle, the backstroke, the butterfly and the I.M. in a dominating performance. Dylan Elliot, also of Mapleton, was strong with a third in the freestyle, the backstroke and the breaststroke and a second in the I.M. Garrett Kinney placed in four events and Alex Hemphill two to pace PI swimmers.
Leading the way in the girls 13-14 division was Erica Hemphill, who took first place in the freestyle, butterfly and I.M. Grace Short of PI won the breaststroke, with teammate Jesse Lucas taking second. Dara Raymond of Mapleton placed in three different events.
In boys’ 13-14 action, Presque Isle’s Stephen Goulet rolled with wins in the freestyle, the breaststroke and the butterfly. He also came in second in the backstroke to complete a fine all-around performance.
The girls’ 15-18 category saw PI’s Karrie Brawn and Allison Young combined for five first-place finishes. Brawn won the freestyle, breaststroke and I.M., while Young prevailed in the backstroke and the butterfly.
Cameron Winter and Jacob Brawn had solid showings in the boys’ 15-18 division. Winter won the butterfly and the I.M. and took second in the freestyle and the backstroke. Brawn was the breastroke champ and also had three third-place performances.
The County meet will be held today at the Presque Isle Indoor Pool.
