The ballots were cast July 25, and when they were counted, four members of the Presque Isle Patriots were named American Legion Zone 1 first-team baseball all stars.
Andrew York of Mars Hill, who went 3-2 with a 2.40 earned run average, was selected as one of the pitchers, while Mike Cleary of Houlton, who batted .469 with 30 hits (13 for extra-bases, including three home runs) and 22 RBI was the choice at second base.
Hunter Caron of Houlton made the team as an outfielder, thanks to a .408 batting average, 36 runs scored, three home runs and 23 RBI, while Tom Desjardins of Fort Kent was the designated hitter with his .481 batting mark, four homers and 15 RBI.
Presque Isle, which finished the regular season with a 12-8 record and in fifth place, also had three players receive honorable mention. That group includes catcher Harry Austin of Houlton, outfielder Pat Thibodeau of Caribou and shortstop Logan York of Presque Isle.
Also making the first team were five players from Bangor. They were pitcher Neal Russell, third baseman Shane Walton, shortstop Ian Edwards, outfielder Tom Crews and DH Gordon Webb. Tyler Miles of Waldo was named pitcher of the year and was also a first-teamer along with teammate Noah Burke, a catcher. Representing Brewer were pitcher Greg Higgins and utility player Chris McGuire.
Collin Henry of Trenton was selected as the district’s player of the year. Pitcher Scott Kelley of Penquis, first baseman Aaron Flannery of Lincoln, outfielder Shawn Smith of Hampden and outfielder Corey Fournier of Orono were also named to the elite squad.
