The Presque Isle Historical Society received two grants totaling $2,750 which will enable the Society to start the planning for an upcoming fall event that is sure to please music lovers and music students in the area. The Society is planning a Fall Pops Concert in which the Brass and String Ensemble (a nine member portion of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra) will perform in Presque Isle. This will be a fund-raising event to raise capital for the restoration of the historic fire station. The overall restoration costs are estimated at almost $1.6 million with just over $250,000 raised to date. Once completed, the fire station will offer a central location for cultural tourism, historical learning and educational opportunities promoting all of Aroostook County, as well as serve as the headquarters of the Historical Society.
The Fall Pops Concert will tentatively be held on Saturday, Oct. 13. The musicians will provide a workshop in the afternoon for local high school and middle school musicians. The concert will begin that evening at 7 p.m. and will consist of two 45-minute sessions separated by a brief intermission during which the musicians will perform with the students who participated in the afternoon workshop. Following the concert, a meet the musicians reception will be held. Tickets will be $15 per person for general admission, $5 for children under 10 and $30 per person for Special Patron Tickets. The special tickets entitle holders to reserved ‘orchestra’ seating and admission to the reception.
Sponsorships are available to individuals and area businesses. All sponsors will be listed in the concert program and each sponsor will receive special benefits. In addition, advertisements will be sold for the concert program.
