CARIBOU – On Saturday,  the St. John Valley Mustangs opened the season with a 19-14 football victory over the First Citizens Bank Huskies.     The Mustangs jumped out in front with a long pass to Brandon Bosse who got behind the Huskies secondary, and went in for a score. The extra point failed. Chris Ruth almost duplicated the feat when he connected with Pete Phalen for a second score early in the second quarter. Bosse scored the extra point to make the score 13-0.
The Huskies came back on a pass to Ryan Jones, with Tim Langlais converting the extra point to make the game 13-7. However, Ruth again hit Bosse for a score before the half.
Midway through the third quarter Henry Milligan found Matt Harris breaking free for a score. Milligan also ran for the extra point closing the gap to 19-14.
