PRESQUE ISLE — A Presque Isle woman was indicted by the Aroostook County Grand Jury last week on charges of arson and attempted murder. According to information released last week by District Attorney Neale Adams, Cinderella “Cindy” Garvey was among 40 others indicted when the grand jury began a new one-year term with sessions in Houlton and Caribou Sept. 13 and 14.
Garvey, 43, is being charged in connection with a June 9 incident in which she allegedly attempted to set fire to a family’s Mechanic Street home.
Det. Wayne Selfridge of the Presque Isle Police Department said that Garvey had an “imagined grievance” against the Mechanic Street family when she entered their porch just before 10 p.m. and started pouring lighter fluid on the house.
Seven people were at home at the time of the incident, said Selfridge, including the father who confronted Garvey and put the fire out. During that confrontation, Garvey also allegedly assaulted an adult female and a teenager at the home.
“The two adults residents [at the home]… barely knew Garvey,” Selfridge said. “But physical and testimonial evidence obtained by Officer Kevin Schumacher during his investigation revealed that her (Garvey’s) motive was to cause the death of the inhabitants.”
Garvey is being charged with attempted murder, arson and two counts of assault.
