Lady Cougars undefeated in seven games

    The Katahdin Lady Cougars battled to a 3-3 double overtime tie with host Fort Fairfield on Monday for a 6-0-1 record. Last Friday, the Lady Cougars defeated Southern Aroostook, 3-1, in Stacyville.    Katahdin goalie Kayla Stevens didn’t allow a goal to be scored in either overtime period, as she blocked nine of 16 shots in the game. Mary-Jo Robinson scored off a Melissa Duffy assist to knot the game with a minute left in regulation to force overtime, while Duffy recorded both previous goals. Dani Beth Cyr added an assist in the contest.
    Maryl Shaw led Fort Fairfield with two goals, as goalie Kristen Hebert rejected 13 of 18 shots faced.
    Brooke Livezey paced Katahdin’s offense with a goal and assist against SACS, while Robinson and Sarah Goodman each added tallies in the winning effort. Jalisa Moore chipped in with an assist, while goalie Stevens blocked 28 of 34 shots faced.
    For Southern Aroostook, Rochelle Nadeau converted a Liz Goodall pass with just over eight minutes left in the game. Goalie Emily Cummings set back 23 of 29 shots.
    The visiting Lady Warriors came away with a 2-1 win over Woodland last Wednesday.
    Kim Grant scored the game-winner with 12:13 left in regulation. Goodall knotted the game with a tally at he 29:36 mark of the second half. Cummings had seven saves on 11 shots in goal.
    Woodland’s Julia Nicholas opened the scoring in the first half, while goalie Cynthia Bergin set aside 14 of 20 shots for the 3-2 Dragons.
    Last Wednesday, the Lady Hawks were on the losing end of a 2-0 game against undefeated Katahdin. Duffy scored both of the hosts’ goals in first-half action, with assists going to Robinson. Goalie Stevens preserved the shutout by stopping four of seven shots.
    For Hodgdon, Emily Jurson and Jillian London combined to block eight of 17 shots.
    The Lady Hawks edged visiting Limestone, 3-2, last Saturday when Taylor Hovey tallied the game-winner 33 seconds into overtime. Shannon Martin tied the game at 2-all on a penalty kick in second half action, with Alyssa Hutchinson scoring Hodgdon’s opening goal in the first half. Goalie Jurson turned back 13 of 19 shots faced.
    Limestone’s Melanie Allen stopped 26 of 34 shot attempts by Hodgdon.
    In earlier action, the Lady Hawks fell 3-2 to Fort Fairfield last Thursday. However, they took a 2-0 win from visiting Central Aroostook of Mars Hill last Tuesday for a 3-7-1 record.
    Visiting Fort Fairfield scored twice in the first half and the score was deadlocked at 2-all before Shaw punched in the game-winning goal seven minutes into the second half.
    Hodgdon’s Kerriann Estabrook scored both goals, with an assist from Samantha Lycette on the first one.
    Fort Fairfield’s goalie Hebert had 13 saves on 17 shots, while Hodgdon goaltender Jurson rejected 16 of 22 shots faced.
    In Tuesday’s game against CAHS, Samantha Carpenter scored both of Hodgdon’s goals in second-half action. Martin assisted on Carpenter’s scores. Goalie Jurson blocked 14 of 18 shots faced for the 2-6-1 Hodgdon team.
    For CAHS, goalie Ashley Estabrook turned away 11 of 13 shot attempts, as the Lady Panthers slip to 3-5-2 on the year.
    East Grand is still looking for its first win as the girls fell to an 0-6 record with losses to Shead (4-0), Woodland (8-0) and Easton, (9-3).
     In Eastport, goalie Courtney Lloyd blocked 15 of 23 shots, while against Woodland, she faced 35 shots and made 23 saves.
    Sheena Roy scored twice for the Lady Vikings against Easton, while Kelsey Daoust scored and added an assist. Jackie Dodge also chipped in with an assist, while goalie Lloyd stopped 15 of 24 shots.
    In boy’s action, the Katahdin Cougars slipped to 4-3 with a loss to Fort Fairfield on Monday. However, the Cougars defeated visiting Southern Aroostook last Friday.
    At Fort Fairfield, the Tigers edged the Cougars, 3-2, behind Ryan Noyes, who scored a goal and set up the other two tallies. Goalie Austin Dufour stopped 11 of 17 shots as Fort Fairfield improved to 10-0-1.
    For the Cougars, Marshall Davis and Mitch Webster each scored for the 4-3 Cougars. Tom Anderson added an assist, while goalie Matt Tarr turned back five of 12 shots on goal.
    In earlier action, Davis led Katahdin with a pair of goals, while Ethan Qualey added a goal and an assist, as the Cougars defeated SACS, 4-1.
    Andy Kay connected for a tally on a penalty kick and Tom Anderson chipped in with another assist. Goalie Tarr had five saves on nine shots faced.
    For Southern Aroostook, Dakota Sleeper scored a first-half goal. Goalie Colby Clark blocked nine of 23 shots.
    The Cougars picked up a 6-1 win over visiting Hodgdon last Wednesday, behind two goals and an assist by Kay. Anderson, Billy Duffy, Kaleb Gallagher and Davis all scored single tallies for the winners, while Anderson, Davis and Rich Qualey all added assists. Goalies Tarr and Levi Cyr combined to stop two of four shots.
    For Hodgdon, Jamie Ryan scored the lone goal assisted by Chris Harris. Goalie Dan McGillicuddy faced 33 shots and came up with 15 saves.
    The Houlton Shiretowners upped their record to 4-5 with a 3-0 shutout against visiting Lee Academy last Friday.
    Parker Brown, Ryan Hill and Josh Drew each scored a goal, while Brown, Ben Austin and James Bates all added assists. Houlton goalie Ryan Van Buskirk stopped all three shots he faced.
    For Lee, goalie A.J. Harris had 10 saves on 13 shots for the 0-5 Pandas.
    The East Grand Vikings were defeated 5-0 by Shead last Saturday and they came up short against Easton, 3-0.
    Against Shead in Eastport, the Vikings were outshot 19-3, as goalie Abe Brittain made nine saves in the contest for East Grand.
    Brad Trask scored two of Easton’s goals and assisted on Corey White’s score. Goalie Jeremy Brock stopped 19 of 21 shots, while Viking goalie Brittain blocked 16 of 33 shots faced.
    CORRECTION: In last week’s paper, the second Houlton goal scored by the Lady Shires against visiting Hodgdon was made by Chelsea Murray not Lainey Herring. The Lady Shires defeated visiting Hodgdon, 4-2.
