SEPT. 11 CEREMONY — VFW Post 2299 recently held a Sept. 11 ceremony at the post home in Stacyville. Pictured here, from left, are: front, Fran Sleeper, Alan Bouchard and John “Butch” Cannon; standing, Bob Pulsifer, Ethel Morgan, Mary Joy, Rep. Henry Joy, Peter Roy, Colleen Guiggey and Irene Heath.
The morning started with a prayer by Leon Robinson, selectman for the Town of Stacyville, and a reading from Allison Roy, president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, along with music by Allison and Peter Roy.
As members of the community gathered in the hall, Peter Roy and Alan Bouchard rang the bell at the Stacyville Town Office at the time of each of the four plane crashes. After each bell ringing, there were short readings by Irene Heath, Colleen Guiggey, Butch Cannon and Peter Roy. In the time between the readings and bell ringing it gave the community present a chance to share stories and feelings about the horrible events of that day. Rep. Henry Joy was present that day and shared his memories of Pearl Harbor and Sept. 11. During the ceremony large candles were also lit to remember each plane and several smaller candles in remembrance of the day.
