Park finishes first

    PRESQUE ISLE – Wildcat Corey Park set a winning pace to come in first at the 58th annual Old Town Sectional Invitational Saturday beating out his Viking rivals as well as the Crusaders and Wolverines.

    He led second-place runner, Viking Spencer McElwain, 20 seconds to the finish line with a time of 17:01.37.
    Presque Isle High Schoolmissed out on a team win due to four maroon jerseys crossing before their second runner. Caribou won the meet with a score of 20 and a total time of 1:29:13.43 over Presque Isle’s 42 and time of 1:30:46.71. John Bapst placed third at 82 and Schenck made up the last place with 95.
    In eighth place, Jason Johnson finished second for the Wildcats at 18:10.54. Alex Carter slotted in at 11th with a time of 18:21.60. Rounding off the five scoring runners, Matt Howe and Brandon Hafford came in at 15th and 16th with times of 18:32.67 and 18:40.53. The rest of the varsity team finished hard, Jeremy Fuller (20:26.40) at 28th and Ethan York (22:02.67) at 37th.
    The Lady ‘Cats made a tenacious effort but fell behind with a score of 103. MDI (43), Caribou (44), John Bapst (66) and Old Town (97) made up the top four. PIHS put in a total time of 1:54:28.66 and an average of 22:53.74.
    Erin Thomas sprinted in first for Presque Isle in 15th with a time of 22:09 followed by teammate Hallie Bartlett with a 22:13.02. Julia Brown and Jerica Fox finished 23rd and 28th at 22:39.19 and 23:04.34. Jaylee Fox placed 33rd at 24:23.11. Danni Anderson (25:22.37) and Lydia Brown (25:23.05) followed on each other’s heels across the line in 35th and 36th.
