Girls grades 3 and 4 soccer
The Hurricane avenged their only loss of the season last Wednesday, downing the previously undefeated Galaxy, 2-0. Shaye McHatten broke away from the defense and blasted in an unassisted goal to give the Hurricane the early lead. Regan Nelson and Alexis Bell tried to even it up for the Galaxy, but Abigayle Shaw and Sedona Lucas did a great job on defense for the Hurricane. The Missiles and Crunch met in the first game of the afternoon last Tuesday. The Missiles got on the board first thanks to an unassisted goal from Kyle Rider. Byron Winslow made it 2-0 in favor of the Missiles when he gathered a loose ball on the right side, then dribbled through the Crunch defense before smacking a shot just past the fingertips of Crunch goalie Nick Bartlett. Michael Mahon scored the Missiles’ third goal of the game on a breakaway late in the game n the 3-0 decision.
The Blast picked up a tough win over a scrappy Drillers team, 2-1, last Wednesday afternoon. The Blast took the early lead when Micah Taubin scored off a long pass from Cooper Madore. The lead was increased to 2-0 after Josiah Morse beat Drillers keeper Ryan Bridges with a terrific shot. David Kofstad got the Drillers on the board late in the first half. The ball squirted out of a big scramble in front of the goal, and Kofstad hammered the ball home.
The Sounders kept their undefeated record intact with a hard fought 2-0 win over a vastly improved Crunch team. Zach Rice put the Sounders on the board as he coolly slid the ball past Crunch goalie Corrie Kilcollins. Gavin Kelley picked up the assist on the goal. Kelley notched a goal of his own moments later, converting off a pass from Grant Bridges.
Girls grades 5 and 6 soccer
The Mutiny took on the Rapids in a Sept. 14 contest. Sara Gilson of the Rapids and Jacqueline Lambert of the Mutiny were the goal scorers in the 1-1 tie.
The Mutiny were back in action last Tuesday afternoon, with Lambert and the Crew’s Carly Bell scoring first-half goalsand Emma Kinney and Bell exchanging goals in the second half before Bell assisted on Jordi Legassie’s game-winner in the Crew’s 3-2 win.
The Clash and Rapids met up in the late game Tuesday afternoon. Lydia Short and Jenna Hallett scored to give the Rapids a 2-0 lead before Kaleigh Kinney scored twice to tie it for the Clash. Hallett scored three more goals to help her team win, 5-3. Carly Bell scored the only goal of the game and Cameo Madore picked up the shutout as the Crew bested the Rapids Thursday.

Boys grades 5 and 6 soccer
The Strikers and Express met up on Thursday afternoon in a classic defensive battle. The first half ended in a scoreless tie, with John Freeman of the Express and Andrew Paterson of the Strikers making many spectacular saves each. The Strikers finally broke through late in the second half, when Devin Cray snuck the ball just inside the post to give his team the 1-0 advantage. Karson Wilcox and Ben Buckley created some chances for the equalizer, but Aaron Kofstad’s blazing speed wiped out any chances the Express had, as the Strikers hung on for the 1-0 victory.
The Kicks and Sting hooked up in a back and forth affair in the late game Thursday afternoon. Ryder Soucy put the Kicks on the board first when he converted on a penalty kick. Ben Nickerson came right back and tied it up for the Sting. Trent Wilson scored on a breakaway late in the first half to give the Kicks the 2-1 edge at the break.
Nickerson again tied it up for the Sting, with his second goal coming courtesy of a penalty kick. Nickerson’s third goal of the game gave the Sting their first lead of the afternoon. It was short-lived, as Ryder Soucy notched his second goal off an assist from Chase Norton. Both sides pushed hard for the win, but neither could find the back of the net again as the game ended tied, 3-3. Trevor Levesque and Dylan Ouellette anchored the Kicks’ defensive efforts.

Punt, Pass and
Kick Competition
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will be hosting the Pepsi Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition at Riverside Park on Sunday, Sept. 30. This nationally recognized event is for boys and girls ages 8 to 15, and age is determined as of Dec. 31. Registration begins at 10 am, and the competition will start at 11 a.m. There is no fee for this program. Please call 764-2545 with any questions.
