HOULTON – Philip Wendell Porter, 85, died Sept. 23, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor. He was born June 16, 1922 in Houlton the son of Wendell and Nellie (Hotham) Porter.
Philip was a 1941 graduate of Houlton High School. He enlisted in the US Army in 1943 and served as Radio Repairman in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe during WW II. He was employed by New England Telephone and Telegraph Company for over 30 years, working in Houlton, Caribou, Old Town, Belfast and Rockland. He was Past King Lion of the Rockland Lions Club. Known for his humor, Phil created "Filpot’s Fables", a cartoon strip which ran in the Courier Gazette. An outdoorsman from an early age, he enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing and hunting. Friends will remember his generosity and ability to fix most anything. With a great curiosity for life, he was an avid reader and deep thinker until curbed by dementia.
