Alumni kick off campaign

    The Houlton High School Alumni Association recently kicked off their annual fund campaign for 2007-2008. A direct mail piece was sent to all alumni in the association’s data base encouraging contributions to the annual fund. The Annual Fund has been in existence since 2004 and each year more money has been raised with over $36,000 being raised for the 2006-2007 campaign. The money from the annual fund is used to help fund scholarships presented by the Association each year, to fund projects at the high school and to fund the other work of the association.
    Those interested in contributing to the annual fund are encouraged to return the pledge card included in the mailing with their donation. Credit card donations can be made through the Alumni Association web site houltonalumni.com. Contributions can also be mailed directly to the Association at P.O. Box 990, Houlton, ME 04730. All contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
    Another aspect of the annual fund is the phone-a-thon which is held each year in November. The phone-a-thon has resulted in a large percentage of the annual contributions to the annual fund. Teams of volunteers will call alumni during the two-night event in November to get pledges or take credit card contributions. Sixteen teams of five will work on the phone-a-thon, which will take place at York’s of Houlton and F. A. Peabody Company on Nov. 13 and 14. Prizes, which have been generously donated by area businesses and individuals, are given out throughout the evening and cash prizes are given to those bringing in the most money. A cash drawing is also held for all volunteers.
