The State High School Invitational Golf Tournament was held last weekend at Natanis Golf Club in Vassalboro on very tricky greens.
GOLFERS – Representing Houlton High School at the State Golf Individual Championships were, from left, Ian Gervais, Ashley Cleary, Nikki Eastman, Porter Gervais and Dylan Flewelling.
Five Houlton golfers played in the championship, with junior Porter Gervais finishing third in Class B with a score of 79 behind Johnny Hayes of Cape Elizabeth, 73 and Jack Wyman of Falmouth, 78.
Freshman Ian Gervais shot an 83 to place 12th and junior Dylan Flewelling carded an 88 for a 21st finish.
In girl’s competition, Nikki Eastman tallied a 103 for a 12th-place finish, while teammate Ashley Cleary finished with a score of 115 and came in around 20th in the competition.
“Both girls played well,” said coach Bruce Nason. “They both did a great job.”
Soggy ground and standing water on the course made for a difficult shooting day for the Shires.
The conditions were not great,” Nason said. “It was very wet and everyone’s scores were up a little from the previous week.”
THIRD – Junior Porter Gervais came in third, with a score of 79, in the State High School Golf Individual Meet.
