HOULTON — A public hearing on the proposed Houlton Community Arts Center will happen Thursday night at Houlton High School.
The hearing, which is part of the regular SAD 29 Board meeting, will include a presentation of the project and a time for questions and answers from the audience.
The $5 million project would bring new and expanded arts space to Houlton High School; the plan calls for an expanded and updated auditorium, bigger classrooms and more. The goal is to create space for performing and visual arts that could be used by the entire community.
The Houlton Community Arts Center Council is working to raise $2.5 million through private donors and $2.5 million through a public bond.
SAD 29 member towns of Houlton, Littleton, Monticello and Hammond will vote on a $5 million bond when they go to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 6. The other half of the bond funds will support ongoing renovations at the high school.
This week’s public hearing will begin at 7 p.m. at the high school.
