Successful Yard Sale
The Mars Hill Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary would like to thank the members of the community who donated to their yard sale last weekend. Through donations they raised approximately $550.
United Methodist Women
The October meeting of the United Methodist Women met in the church vestry Oct. 8 with 12 members present. President Janice Footer opened the meeting by leading all in the UMW Purpose Pledge and Prayer.
The secretary’s report was read and accepted as read. For communication, a thank-you card was received from Barbara McCrum, who spoke at the September meeting on her trip and continued interest in working in Africa.
Joan Walsh, treasurer, gave a special report. It was voted to cut back on the order for the Upper Room, a daily devotional guide, from 28 to 22. President Footer brought samples for the new kitchen countertops and all present voted on the selected color.
Members signed up for the programs for next year, selecting the month of their choice.
It was voted to give $100 to Barbara McCrum toward her African mission work. It was decided to continue using the prayer chain, updating the names. It was voted to have the annual craft, soup and pie sale Nov. 3 in the church vestry. Members were solicited and committees appointed: Diane Ketchum is in charge of the dining room, Joan Walsh of crafts, Elaine Bailey of the food table, and Joan Boone, of the kitchen.
The word for next month is “thanks” or “thankful.” After the Benediction, the meeting was turned over to program chair Diane Ketchum. She presented a thought-provoking “World Thanks Day” program by Josephine Deer, with all members participating. A thanks offering was taken and all sang the “Hymn of Promise.” Diane served delicious refreshments.
Members present were Janice Footer, Joan Boone, Joan Walsh, Elaine Bailey, Diane Ketchum, Frances Banks, Winnie Anderson, Cindy Anderson, Carol Guiggey, Donna Brewer, Alma Smith and Clara Hussey.

Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning at The Aroostook Health Center. Special presentations were made to John Babin ($3,000) of The Aroostook Health Center for the purchase of a special lift chair and to Mike Brown ($250) for the Youth Ski Program at Big Rock Ski Area.
The special speaker was Rotarian Roger Shaw, superintendent of SAD 42. He has been in education for over 40 years. He spoke about the school consolidation plans and his opposition to them. He does not believe that the projected savings will be realized, and is also concerned that the current state budget is already incorporating these projected savings into the equation.

If you do not have anything to bring, that’s OK, too, as others will be willing share and teach. All are welcome – you don’t have to be a Bridgewater resident to participate, so bring your friends, too! For more information, contact Chris Finemore at 425-6606.
