LUDLOW — A tragic loss saw a happy ending last week after a Ludlow couple discovered a dirty and matted, but a happy little Shih-Tzu. Nine-year-old Mushu wandered away from her owner’s home into the wilderness and her family had little hope of ever finding her again.

Margaret Drew, Mushu’s owner, began the search for her beloved pet by placing ads in the Pioneer Times. Drew said her family and friends had told her to be realistic about the chances of finding the dog, but she never gave up hope.
Dennis and Kathy Richardson run a daycare center in the Ludlow area, and they noticed the pup wandering near the road and recognized her from the paper. They immediately called Drew with the news.
“I can’t believe she’s been found,” explained Drew. “She’s been lost for two-and-a-half weeks. My friend Linda said ‘that dog’s gone. You’ll never see her again.’ Surprise!”
Drew said the odds were certainly against Mushu, who stands less than a foot tall and two feet long. An animal that small would be prey to the numerous creatures living out in the rural areas. But somehow, Mushu prevailed and she’s now back in her owners’ care and after a visit to the pooch parlor on Thursday, she’s now clean and groomed and on the road to full recovery.
