Star Houlton athlete — The following report from the Bowdoin Sophomore-Freshman ball game will interest Houlton lovers of the national game.
“The prettiest play of the game was Lawlis’ one-handed catch of an extremely difficult fly in back of third base. It was one of the best catches ever made on the Delta and drew a round of applause. Besides this, Bob made a base hit and has also stolen some bases to his credit. He has been initiated into DKE, one of the leading secret societies of Bowdoin.

New industry — When the Houlton Zoning and Planning Board unanimously approved a petition presented to it by Raymond Crone late yesterday afternoon, the last obstacle was cleared permitting the establishment of the first new industry of any size to be started in this town in many years.
When New England Fiberglass, Inc. goes into full production, it will produce 20 to 25 boats each week and employ no less than 20.
The facility will be located on the second floor of the Farrar-Brown building on Mechanic Street and will hold an annual payroll of $75,000.

Major project — The Houlton Town Council was advised Monday night that the New England Telephone Co. plans a major project here next summer as it continues its program of installing new conduit systems in town.
An engineer with the phone company said the new underground system will be installed in Market Square, Mechanic Street, Union Square and up North Street to Washburn Street.
Much of the work will be done at the same time the state highway department installs a new intersection for Union Square and a new bridge on North Street.

AWARDS — Thirty-seven employees were guests of Houlton Regional Hospital for an Oct. 27, 1982 dinner at Parkview Terrace. At the dinner, service pins were awarded for various years. Among those receiving pins were Betty Higgins, at left, and Lois Cumming, at right, for their 35 years at the hospital. Dr. John Madigan is pictured here extending congratulations to Higgins, who was part of the nursing staff then.
