HOULTON — Everything’s a go and tickets are moving fast for next April’s performance by celebrated comedian and ventriloquist Jeff Dunham and his “On a Stick” friends.
The Houlton Agricultural Fair is hoping to pack the Millar Civic Center on Saturday, April 19 for this one-of-a-kind show. Fair President Paul Cleary said the committee worked hard to bring Dunham and his act to the town and he believes it’s going to be a performance that most people won’t want to miss.
“We officially went on sale Oct. 22, but with our advertising, we’ve been selling tickets like you wouldn’t believe,” he explained. “We’re selling 2,500 tickets per show … that’s 5,000 in total.”
There will be two shows during that evening — the first at 5:30 and the second will begin at 8:30.
Last year’s event drew in a record sell-out crowd for Blue Collar Comedian Ron White. Cleary said the funds raised from last year’s show and this year’s show will be put toward the fair’s land fund and operations budget.
“The money is going to help with our continued improvements on our land and a portion of the funds will go to offset the activities for the Fourth of July,” he explained.
Cleary said supporting fair events is basically the same as giving back to the community. Everything that is raised will go toward benefiting the public in one form or another. One of those benefits has been eliminating the individual gate fees.
“We do events like this to bump the cost down for the Fourth of July,” said Cleary. The Fair doesn’t make any money.”
Tickets for the event are $40 for floor seating or $25 for bleachers and can be purchased at Andy’s IGA, Aroostook Milling, Chadwick’s Florist, the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce, Dead River I-95, Trendsetters, Houlton Power Sports and York’s Book Store. They can also be purchased online at www.houltonfair.com.
