Carl Lord Jr.: Three seats to fill in Nov. 6 council election

Full name: Carl Lord Jr.
Other political offices held: I was elected to the board of budget review for a three-year term. The last term I served as chairman. The same year I was elected to the town council for a three-year term. The second year I served as secretary. I am also a director on the board of the Shiretown Development Corporation and the Southern Aroostook Development Corporation. I am also a member of the Television and Roads 2000 committees. I believe being involved and informed is very important in being a town councilor.
Image Career background: At the age of 17 I started working in a sawmill at night and attended high school during the day. Then I went on to work for a potato farmer for a few years. For the past 25 years I have been at L.P. I worked as a lineman for just over a year and then became a dryer/boiler operator and went on to get my High Pressure Boiler License. I have served many years on our Safety and Ergonomics Committee receiving a certificate from Northern Maine Community College. I have also served on several other committees.
What made you run for office? I shall and will continue to control the spending, to help keep economic development on track and most of all, keeping the citizens of Houlton informed on what is going on. I believe we should buy what we need, not what we want. We still need someone to make wise decisions. I believe I have proven this with my three-year record that I have and will continue to do what is in the best interest of the town.
What are your primary goals? I want to work and help all citizens and just a chosen few. My first year on the council I initiated to give $500,000 back to the citizens of Houlton, and we did. I also supported the $150,000 back to the citizens just this year, lowering the mill rate even more. This is one of the reasons I believe I have been successful and I would like to continue to work for the citizens and our town. I believe that the people should have a choice, one that puts the citizens and the town as a first priority.
