Houlton’s Parker Brown among outstanding soccer players in the County
The Northern Maine Board of Approved Soccer Officials has announced the 2007 winners of the annual “Butch” Shaw Memorial Award.
The award, named in the memory of Clyde “Butch” Shaw, an exceptional athlete, coach and official in Aroostook County who died in 1985, is presented to the outstanding soccer players during the 2007 season in Aroostook County.
The winners are selected by a vote of Aroostook County soccer coaches.
In Class C, Parker Brown of Houlton was the male recipient, while Fort Kent’s Marissa Albert, along with Jamie Daigle and Susan Lavertu of Madawaska, were all winners.
In Class B boys the winner was Kyle Corrigan of Caribou and for the girls, Ali Richards of Caribou and Sarah Porter of Presque Isle.
For Class D, Emanuel Martinez of Central Aroostook and Alex Martin of Van Buren were the award recipients, while on the girl’s side, Whitney Flint of Ashland; Lindsay Lajoie of Van Buren and Alex Bird of Washburn were recognized.
Also chosen were the All-Aroostook League all-stars. The awards program for member schools has been developed to honor athletes for their accomplishments during the fall season.
All-Aroostook soccer players are selected by a vote of coaches, while golf and cross-country all-stars are selected by criteria established by the Aroostook League. All athletes receive an All-Aroostook certificate. Fall winners in their respective sports are as follows:
