A dinner, auction will be held on Nov. 3 at the Mapleton Lion’s Hall, with proceeds going to help fund next year’s Mapleton Daze event. The dinner will start at 5 p.m. and the auction will follow at 6:30 p.m. Proceeds will go toward the purchase of fireworks, prizes and games for the annual event. 2008 will mark the 20th Mapleton Daze, and organizers hope to make it the biggest yet. The Mapleton Daze Dinner and Auction has been raising funds for the summer festival for around ten years now, and will once again feature Ron Leonard as auctioneer. Leonard stressed the importance of the event to raise funds for Mapleton Daze.
“We can’t have enough people attend,” said Leonard.
Mapleton Daze Auction Committee Co-Chair, Julie Clark echoed Leonard’s statement saying, “The turnout for the dinner and auction is usually around 50 people, but we’re really hoping to draw in a bigger crowd this year.”
Some of the items in this year’s auction include a seasoned cord of wood, two three-month fitness center memberships, a portrait package, a one day guided deer hunt, a published local photo with matte and frame, dinner for two and car detailing. Other items include an overnight camp rental, an exterior polycoat treatment, a weekend SUV/minivan rental, UMaine Black Bears men’s hockey tickets and a weekend camp rental.
All of the auction items have been donated by local residents and businesses including: Arnold Gough, County Physical Therapy, Firefly Photography, Trophy Hunting in Maine, Voscar The Maine Photographer, Morningstar Art and Framing, Governor’s Restaurant, Mike Cowett’s Auto, Alden Swanson/ The Pines at Chapman, Jim’s Automotive, Rent A Wreck, Sled Quarters and many others.
“We’re still gladly accepting donations,” said Clark. For more information or to make a donation call Mapleton Daze Auction Committee Co-Chair Jenn Edgecomb at 764-5336.
