Hunter’s breakfast a success
The annual Rotary Hunters’ Breakfast enjoyed a great turnout with lots of hungry hunters enjoying everything from eggs, toast, hash, bacon, ham to French toast, coffee and tea. The Rotary wishes to thank everyone for supporting the club’s efforts during this fund-raiser, and also for their donations to the food drive by the Catholic Charities held in front of the Civic Center as well as supporting the Methodist Church food sale during the breakfast.
There was a wide array of door prizes given out during the breakfast. The first prize, a Remington Model 700 rifle, was won by Rod Sperrey; and second prize, 100 gallons of fuel oil donated by Perham Oil, was won by Dale Knowles.
The grand prize, a night for two donated by Moose Point Lodge which also included three delicious meals, was won by Kelly White. The Whites generously re-donated the prize for next year’s event.

Enjoyable family visit
The Reverend Llewellyn Sperrey motored to Maine from West Virginia, spending 10 days with his parents. Atwood and Dot Sperrey. Joining him was his daughter Lisa and three grandchildren Heather, Nathaniel and Joshua, all from West Virginia. The family enjoyed visiting with family and friends in Washburn, with each night enjoying special suppers at the home of Ronald and Norma Sperrey. Most suppers were shared by at least 18 family members, and all enjoyed watching the Red Sox games on television.
The grandchildren from West Virginia were fascinated by the three or four moose that showed up each morning in the field across the road from their grandparent’s home and also enjoyed visiting with Clitso, the family horse. The teenage cousins – Rachel, Kellie, Marcie, Heather, Nathaniel and Joshua – really enjoyed getting to know each other as well as finding interesting things to do together.
Llewellyn is in very poor health but was just glad to be home again with his family. While here, his cousin Donna Towne came from Milo for a special visit with him, and he also enjoyed spending some time with his Aunt Delores Sperrey of Caribou and Daryl Sperrey.
Norma Sperrey is known for her good cooking, and meals included fresh oyster stew, spare ribs, chicken stew and Anita Chevoit’s special spaghetti night meal. Everyone brought foods including some beans cooked by Norma and matriarch Dot Sperrey. There were many cooks who offered their talents to feed the family, but Atwood Sperrey, the family patriarch noted that he was likely the “main eater” for the suppers.

Students sell 9-1-1 numbers
Grade 8 students from Washburn will be holding a fund-raiser selling E-9-1-1 numbers for both road signs and houses for the towns of Washburn, Wade and Perham.
The signs satisfy the E-9-1-1 Ordinance and are available in both single- and double-sided types. They are blue signs with yellow numbers (Washburn colors!) and will make great gifts. The road signs are for homes that are more than 100 feet from and are not visible from the roadway. House signs can be used at homes that are less than 100 feet and can be seen from the road.
The sale of the numbers and signs will both support the students and help emergency personnel locate your residence when time is crucial.
Flyers and order forms are available at the town offices in Washburn and Perham, as well as at several local businesses.
