Brenda Cote is hoping to make someone’s Thanksgiving more meaningful this year if she can locate the owner of a mother’s ring she found in the produce department at the local Shop ‘N Save grocery store. “Somebody lost their mother’s ring,” she said holding up the jewelry she found while shopping about a month ago at the Caribou store. “It must have a lot of sentimental value.”
Cote was looking through the corn when she saw the ring stuck in between a few ears of the produce. She gave it to store officials, who held the lost item for a month.
The local police were contacted regarding a possible report of a missing mother’s ring. However, none was filed, Cote said.
When no one came forward to claim the ring, the store gave it to Cote.
The ring is composed of several birthstones set in an older-style setting. Cote declined to name the types of stones, saying that the rightful owner would be able to describe the stones and their order in the ring.
Cote may be contacted at the Maine Winter Sports Center office in Caribou during the day at 492-1444 or at home in the evening at 496-4291.
“It must mean something to somebody,” said Cote.
