Applications are now available for two Lowe’s Scholarship programs, funded by the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. The Lowe’s Scholarship is available to high school seniors nationwide and the Carl S. Buchan Scholarship is available to Lowe’s employees, spouses and their dependents. The deadline to apply is March 15. Applications for both scholarships are available at Lowes.com/scholarships.     “At Lowe’s, we believe academic achievement, volunteerism and community involvement are all important to students’ development,” said Larry D. Stone, chairman of the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. “Through the Lowe’s Scholarship program, we want to motivate young people to achieve their potential, to get involved in their schools and to become future leaders for their communities.”
In 2007, Lowe’s awarded 358 scholarships totaling more than $450,000 to high school students nationwide based on academic achievement, leadership and community involvement. More than 100,000 students applied for the Lowe’s Scholarship, which is open to all high school seniors who plan to attend any accredited two- or four-year college or university within the United States. Nearly 4,000 students applied for the Carl Buchan Scholarship, which is open to full- and part-time regular employees, their spouses and dependents of full- and part-time regular employees.
High school seniors and current college students who plan to enroll full-time in an undergraduate program at any accredited two- or four-year college or university within the United States are eligible to apply. For the Carl Buchan Scholarship, applicants must also have at least 90 days of service with the company as of Jan. 1, 2008 (or be the spouse or dependent of an employee who has at least 90 days of service with the company as of Jan. 1, 2008), and must still be employed (or be the dependent of an employee who is still employed) at the time awards are announced in May 2008.
The scholarships are funded through Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. Since its inception in 1957, Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has helped communities nationwide through employee volunteerism and financial contributions.
