    Island Falls – Mary Christine Sewall (Teenie), 92, died February 28, 2008, at Gardiner Health Care Facility after a chronic illness of several years. She was born March 31, 1915, at Island Falls, the daughter of Fred and Phyllis (Garverick) Sewall.
    Mary was a graduate of Island Falls High School in 1934 and then joined the United States Public Health Service during World War II. She remained with the US Government until 1954. Mary earned her graduate degree in Marketing from Fresno State College in 1958. After graduating, she returned to the US Government employment until 1965, when she worked for the University of Pennsylvania in the Anthropology Department. In 1968, Mary became Director of Public Information for the Utah Environmental Control and worked there until she retired at the age of 67. While in Utah, she earned a BS degree in Ministerial Science in the Teaching of The Inner Christ, a metaphysical church. In 1986, she earned a Masters degree in Ministerial Science. In 1988, Mary retired and returned to Island Falls, where she continued to teach the Teaching of The Inner Christ. She also became interested in the history of the area and restarted the Historical Society in which she became very active. One of her passions was UFO phenomena and she traveled extensively to UFO meetings.
    Mary is survived by her brother George Sewall of Caribou; her sister-in-law, Cleo Sewall of Patten; three nephews, William Sewall, III and his wife Joyce of Washburn, Arthur Smith and his wife Reneva, and David Sewall and his wife Jill all of Island Falls; many great and great-great nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Athleen Godfrey and Arleen Remington both of Salt Lake City, UT. She was predeceased by her sister C. Elizabeth (Betty) Schurman and her brother William (Bill) Sewall, II.
    A time of remembrance was held at the Whittier Congregational Church in Island Falls, Sunday, 1 p.m. with Pastor Michael Kasavich officiating. Gifts may be made in Mary’s memory to the Island Falls Historical Society, c/o Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park Street, Houlton, 04730.
