Seventh-graders are still going to Houlton High, but it seems like as seniors we don’t see them very often. You see them in the morning as the bell rings or if you step into the hall at the wrong time you might see a swarm of them rushing to their next class, but do you know any of their names?
Ben Corey is a seventh-grader here at Houlton who transferred from the Greater Houlton Christian Academy. He is a quiet, curly-haired boy and the youngest of three. His older siblings are also at this school — Sara and Jon Corey. Ben lives in Monticello on a large farm; he enjoys motocross, much like his father and older brother.
When I talked with Ben, he was at lunch in the cafeteria with all his friends. He told me that he really likes being at the high school and is enjoying not having to dress up for school every day. Ben is a level-headed kid who already knows what he wants to do after he graduates from high school. He plans to go to college right here in Maine and become a successful potato farmer.
So, the next time you’re walking through the halls and find yourself stuck in the middle of the seventh-graders, you will know one more in the crowd of running kids.
