Red Cross offers emergency training

    The Aroostook County Branch of the American Red Cross-Pine Tree Chapter is offering a two-part training for individuals interested in becoming Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) drivers.
    Part One will be held on Saturday, March 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Caribou VFW on U.S. Route 1. Two pre-requisite courses will be conducted by Judy Demerchant, American Red Cross Certified Instructor. "Fulfilling Our Mission" will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and "Community Services: An Overview" will be held from 1-3 p.m.
    Part Two will be held on Saturday, April 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 7-9 a.m. at the Caribou VFW. Larry French, American Red Cross Certified Instructor, will provide ERV classroom training on Saturday and driving tests on Sunday.
    Interested individuals must be 21 years of age and be able to pass a criminal background check. In addition, participants must have a valid Class C drivers license, a clean driving record, a current certification in CPR and First Aid and will need to take an on-line Defensive Driving Course for acquiring full ERV certification.
    The pre-requisite courses are open to anyone interested in becoming a Red Cross volunteer; however, seating is limited to six participants for Part Two of the training. Registrations are now being taken by telephone by calling 493-4620 or emailing knorrj@pinetree.redcross.org and must be received by Wednesday, March 26, 2008.
