Blaine – Larry A. Donnelly Sr., 74, died March 13, 2008, at a Presque Isle hospital. He was born April 5, 1933 in Mars Hill the son of George and Julia (Snell) Donnelly. Larry was a 1951 graduate of Aroostook Central Institute. He worked along side his father as a farm hand before joining the armed forces for two years of active military duty, followed by eight years of Army Reserves. In October of 1987 the United States Air Force honored Larry’s retirement for 20 years federal service rendered to the Loring Air Force Base Fire Department. He then went on to work for several years as a USDA produce inspector. After which, he retired from full time employment. Larry worked the yearly harvest for County Super Spuds, because he enjoyed being actively involved with the harvest season. Larry was an active member of the Mars Hill Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years serving his community from 1959 to 1979. He was most recently honored for his 50 years of service, receiving a certificate and trophy given to him by the American Legion Post # 118 of Mars Hill. Larry was an avid sports fan, he was delighted to see the Boston Red Sox win the World Series, not once but twice in his lifetime. He enjoyed passing his knowledge of sports on to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also an outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, walking and riding around the “mountain” to spot big bucks.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Geneva (Dubay) Donnelly of Blaine; sons, Donald Donnelly and his wife Marie of Branson, Missouri, Troy Donnelly of Tacoma, Washington; step-sons, Omer Prue Sr. and his wife Susan of Hudson, NH, Phillip Prue of Enfield, CT, Roy Prue Sr. of Newport; step-daughters, Julia Potvin and her husband Michael of Stratford, NH, Pamela Rideout and her husband Danny of Mars Hill; grandchildren, Austin Donnelly, Cortlin Donnelly, Brayden Donnelly, David Prue, Raymond Prue, Roy Prue Jr., Jessica Prue, Melissa Potvin, Jennifer Potvin, Alison Jordan and Alan Rideout; great- grandchildren, Tyler Prue, Jacob Prue, Ericka Potvin, Hannah Chaput and several nieces and nephews. All were near and dear to his heart, as they were the ones he showed his “comedian” side to. The laughter will be fondly remembered as well as truly missed. He was predeceased by his first wife Gloria (Hawksley) Donnelly and a son Larry Donnelly Jr.
At Larry’s request there will be no services at this time. Interment will be in the Kings Grove Cemetery later in the spring. Arrangements are in the care of the Duncan Funeral Home in Mars Hill. Condolences may be expressed at www.duncan-graves.com.
