PRESQUE ISLE – Caribou High School’s Karyn King laid in two points and drew a foul to net two free throws and claim the All-Star victory for the gold team, 64-62, in last Wednesday’s 2008 Aroostook County All-Star High School Basketball Classic held at the University of Maine at Presque Isle campus.

The blue team went into the half with the 36-22 advantage, but the gold came back to tie at 62 with two minutes remaining before taking the victory. High-scorers were Houlton’s Rachel Foster with 24 points, and Fort Kent’s Marissa Albert with 16 points.

The All-Star boys’ game went into overtime and triple-digit figures in the following high school match. In the closing seconds of the additional two minutes of play, Central Aroostook’s Cameron York maneuvered to make a layup and tied the game at 101. York took a foul on the play and sank his single free throw to give the blue team the victory, 102-101.

The blue team fought from behind after a first half deficit, 58-41, to retake the lead. However, Presque Isle athlete Nic Gallant, of the gold team, drained a three-pointer with .8 seconds remaining to tie the game and send it into overtime.
Caribou’s Jarryd Rossignol led the way for the blue team with 30 points, including six three-pointers. Gallant and Houlton’s Ryan Hill both shot for 18 to lead the gold team.
